Kirribilli Urban Walk

Iconic Harbourside Stroll

There is so much to enjoy on this walk around Kirribilli, from leafy streets and historic homes to superb harbour views. While I’m always impressed with the harbour and city views, it is the charming streetscapes that really capture my attention. In particular, I adore the grand mansions and stylish terrace homes, many with fine Victorian lacework balconies. My favourite street would have to be Fitzroy street, especially in the Autumn…. although Summer and Spring are very special too!

Kirribilli Walking Route

Perfect place for a picnic at Milson Park

This is a circular route starting at Milson Park and takes approximately one hour at a leisurely pace – refer map and information below. While there are a few stairs I consider it an easy walk… the stairs can be bypassed if needed.

Milson Park

A beautifully maintained park with large areas of lawn, lots of shady trees, gardens, palms and views over the bay, it is a great place for a picnic! It is also well known for its brilliant display of jacarandas in November.

The sprinklers were on the day I visited Milson Park & the flowers & bees were loving it 🙂
Winslow St

After leaving Milson Park I head up the Winslow St Stairs, such a pretty little street with tall gums, cottages and terrace homes.

I’ve always admired this little cottage with red door & windows on the Winslow St Stairs
Tall gums add to the beauty of these terraces on Winslow St
Carabella St

At the end of Winslow St, cross over to Carabella St. This is an attractive shady street with terraces and mansions, as well as the Loreto school with its charming chapel tower.

Carabella St in Autumn – I could photograph this every year!
Waruda St

Continue along Carabella St until it joins Kirribilli Ave. You will see opposite the intersection a set of stairs that takes you down to Waruda St, or alternatively you can walk down Beulah St. From Waruda St there are little glimpses between the apartment blocks of the Opera House & CBD… I like the view over Beulah St Wharf, framed by buildings on both sides.

Waterfront Path

Once you come to the end of Waruda St you will see a path and stairs to the waterfront. By following the stairs and path you will be rewarded with some spectacular CBD and harbour views. Continue along the waterfront path until you reach Jeffrey St Wharf. At this point turn right and head up the hill to Jeffreys St.

Just one of the iconic views from the waterfront path, accessed via Waruda St or Jeffrey St Wharf
Iconic, always impresses me!
Jeffreys St

This is an attractive tree lined street with more terrace homes and water views. Follow it to the end where it joins Fitzroy St.

Jeffreys St, love the tall gum & terraces
Fitzroy St

As mentioned earlier, Fitzroy St is one of my favourites, lush green in Spring -Summer and vibrant in Autumn with masses of colour from the Red Bud Forest Pansy (or maybe it’s the Chinese Tallowood?)! Then of course there’s the attractive terrace homes… I adore the one with crenulations, and if you look up there are a number of terraces with wonderful unique chimneys!

Fitzroy St Kirribilli, brilliant in Autumn… or at anytime of year!

Even the chimneys are charming on Fitzroy St!
Willoughby St

Fitzroy St takes you back to Carabella and from there you can retrace your steps to Milson Park, or alternatively go down Willoughby St to enjoy views of the bay.
