The delightful Everglades Garden in Leura was one of the highlights of our trip to the Blue Mountains in Spring. It was a beautiful afternoon, the perfect time to explore this charming European-styled terraced garden.

With masses of blooms and cherry blossoms lining the old stone paths it was easy to appreciate why this is one of Australia’s best-loved and most significant gardens! From the middle terrace one can also enjoy the breathtaking views across the Jamison Valley to Mount Cloudmaker, the Kanangra Walls and Mount Solitary.

As we strolled the winding paths we delighted in the old lichen covered stone walls, towering trees and the cherry blossoms, tulips and Australian natives that were blooming all around us… and of course hundreds of butterflies enjoying it all! Next visit has to be in Autumn, the colours will be spectacular.

The Leura Everglades House and Gardens is owned by the National Trust. Located at the bottom of the estate is the impressive 1930s Art Deco home, which also houses a delightful tearoom.

The tearoom overlooks a reflecting pool and an intimate courtyard, making it a very appealing spot for a rest and bite to eat. Unfortunately we were just a little late for afternoon tea, but it’s on the list for our next trip!

Adjacent to the tearoom courtyard is a winding stone path lined with striking Japanese maples and cherry blossoms, a beautiful place to stroll in the afternoon light.

Just south of the house there’s a path that leads you down to a massive stone wall and lookout. If you continue a little further down the trail you will enter a lovely man-made Grotto pool with beautiful reflections and a small waterfall.
